The best people to care for a home are the ones who understand how it was built.

Desert Star Concierge® shares a legacy with Desert Star Construction®, the company that’s been building Arizona’s finest homes since 1978. The team manages homes with the same depth of knowledge that went into building them.

How It Started

Jerry Meek and his father started Desert Star in 1978 with a Skilsaw and $200 in total assets. They took on every carpentry job nobody else wanted. Did them right. Built a reputation one project at a time.

The first ten years were hard. Jerry’s average annual income was $9,070. But somewhere around the twenty-year mark, everything clicked. Desert Star became one of the Valley’s most respected custom home builders, creating the kind of estates that Arizona’s most accomplished people call home. Estates with commercial-grade mechanical systems, integrated technology, resort-level outdoor spaces, and the sort of complexity that reflects real success.

But Jerry kept noticing something. After the construction crew left, the homes needed ongoing attention that nobody in the market could properly deliver. The team was already showing up to handle problems, coordinate vendors, and keep properties in the condition they deserved. Nobody was paying them to. They felt a responsibility to steward what they’d built.

In 2001, a client named Don put it plainly: “You built my house. You already know every system in it. Why aren’t I paying you to take care of it?” He told Jerry about a concierge service he’d experienced in La Jolla and suggested Desert Star do the same thing, only with something no concierge service could match. Construction-grade knowledge of the actual systems in these homes.

It took another decade to formalize it, but Desert Star Concierge was born from that insight. Jerry still says the concierge business was never designed as a profit center. It started because the team felt a responsibility to steward the homes they’d built and the people who lived in them. That hasn’t changed.

Why Arizona Is Different

The Sonoran Desert is one of the harshest environments for residential construction in the US. Desert Star Construction has been building homes in these conditions since 1978. The concierge team brings that same hard-won knowledge to every property they steward.

UV Exposure

Phoenix UV runs at extreme levels for months at a time. Sealants chalk, paints fade, and outdoor materials embrittle two to three times faster than they would in milder climates.

Monsoon and Moisture

Sudden moisture intrusion contradicts the “dry desert” assumption. Monsoon season brings flash flooding, wind-driven rain, and humidity spikes that expose gaps in waterproofing and drainage.

Dust and Hard Water

Year-round dust clogs HVAC systems and degrades pool equipment. Hard water accelerates corrosion in plumbing, water heaters, and irrigation. Both require ongoing attention most providers overlook.

Extreme Temperature Swings

Arizona ranges from freezing nights and occasional snow at elevation to 122-degree summer peaks. That range punishes every system in a home: expansion joints, caulking, weatherstripping, mechanical components, pool surfaces, and exterior finishes all respond differently at each extreme. A team that understands these temperature changes plans for them year-round.

Our Commitment

Desert Star Concierge exists to provide construction-backed property stewardship for accomplished homeowners, so they can stop managing their homes and start living in them.

We grew from a building legacy that goes back to 1978, and we carry that legacy forward through proactive care, honest counsel, and the kind of deep expertise that only comes from decades inside these homes.

Stewardship through expertise.

Our Values

Four principles guide every interaction, every decision, and every visit to a member’s home. Each one is paired with the behavior it demands of the team in practice.

Professionalism

We deliver an exceptional client experience through a disciplined, responsive, and world-class team.

In Practice: Anticipation

  1. 1. We respond quickly and communicate clearly.
  2. 2. We show up prepared, never reactive.
  3. 3. We represent DSC at the highest level in every interaction.

Integrity

We do what is required, especially when it is difficult, to deliver extraordinary results.

In Practice: Ownership

  1. 1. We follow through, every time.
  2. 2. We address issues early, not after they grow.
  3. 3. We take responsibility instead of shifting it.

Excellence

We execute at the highest level, ensuring every detail reflects premium quality and precision.

In Practice: Precision

  1. 1. We do it right the first time.
  2. 2. We pay attention to the details others overlook.
  3. 3. We never accept “good enough.”

Stewardship

We act as trusted caretakers of our clients’ homes, time, and resources, maximizing what has been entrusted to us.

In Practice: Initiative

  1. 1. We act without being asked.
  2. 2. We treat every home as if it were our own.
  3. 3. We look for ways to improve, protect, and add value daily.

How We Operate

These aren’t values on a wall. They’re promises you can hold us to.

We own the outcome.

When you call us, we don’t pass the problem along or wait for direction. We figure out what needs to happen, coordinate the right people, and handle it. You get a resolution, not a status update.

We stay ahead of your home.

Your home gets systematic reviews on a schedule. We track system ages, monitor wear patterns, and schedule work before emergencies force your hand. The goal is that you never hear about a problem until after it’s been solved.

We protect what’s private.

Your name is pseudonymized in every internal communication. Vendors get briefed on a need-to-know basis only. Security systems, access codes, and surveillance details are handled with the same rigor you’d expect from a wealth advisor.

We show up.

Two AM on a holiday, a fire suppression head blows. We don’t call you to ask what to do. A team member who knows your property is already en route with pre-approved authority to act immediately. You find out about it the next morning, after it’s handled.

We tell the truth about your home.

If something needs replacing, we’ll say so. If a vendor is overcharging, we act as your advocate, helping identify and address unnecessary costs. If a repair can wait, we won’t push it. Our recommendations serve your interest over our revenue. Every time.

The Team

Most of the stewards have been here eight years or more. They know each other’s families. They play volleyball together on the annual Flagstaff trip. There’s no drama.

When something new comes up, the response is the same every time: figure out how to do it, and make it great. That attitude shows up in the care your property receives. People who like their work stay. And that consistency matters when someone is inside your home every month.

Heritage

Born from a Construction Legacy

Desert Star Concierge and Desert Star Construction are sister companies that share a common legacy going back to 1978.

Our stewards grew up surrounded by builders, engineers, and tradespeople. Their understanding of your home’s systems comes from decades of building those systems from the ground up.

That shared history includes a partner network of over 40 of Arizona’s top architects, interior designers, landscape designers, and specialty trades. Firms like David Michael Miller Associates, Drewett Works, Kendle Design Collaborative, OZ Architects, PHX Architecture, and Swaback Partners.

When your stewardship team coordinates work on your home, they’re drawing on relationships the construction company built over almost five decades.

A Legacy You Can Verify

Desert Star Construction has been recognized by every major industry body in luxury residential building. Multiple Gold Nugget Awards. NAHB Custom Home of the Year. Phoenix Home & Garden Home of the Year. Jerry Meek was the first luxury custom home builder to receive Phoenix Home & Garden’s Master of the Southwest award in 2017.

Their work has been featured in over 30 national and regional magazines. That kind of recognition takes nearly five decades to build, and the team is still adding to it.

This isn’t a property management startup that launched last year. The people who manage your home come from a construction legacy that has been independently recognized, publicly documented, and trusted by Arizona’s most accomplished homeowners for generations.

In the Team’s Own Words

How the people who care for these homes describe the work.

“We act as the client’s eyes and ears on their property, proactively identifying needs, managing every detail, and ensuring everything is handled to the highest standard. In addition, we leverage our relationships and experience to make sure our clients receive the best pricing and value from trusted trades, eliminating the need for them to navigate vendors on their own.”

Tamie

DSC Office Manager

“The most valuable service we provide is the security and peace of mind knowing we are taking care of maintaining their home. Not only when there’s emergencies or when things break, but also in the daily upkeep of the home to keep it running and looking great.”
